Easy Energy Savings Tips
Renters usually can't make drastic changes to the living space, and thus are limited in what can be done to make the home or apartment more energy efficient. Check out the tips below:
- Turn off the lights when not in use and change out the light bulbs to LEDs
- Keep the thermostat at the highest comfortable level in the summer, and the lowest comfortable level in the winter.
- Reduce hot water usage. Shorter showers are good. So is running your washer machine with cold water.
- Use window curtains to help keep out the temperatures from the outside.
Air Conditioners
If you have your own personal A/C that is installed in the windows or access hole area, it is your responsibility to clean or replace the filter, as well as clean the exterior drain hole located outside. This allows the draining to properly take place outside. This process should be performed at least once a month or once every two months. FMHA is not responsible for maintaining any personal A/Cs If you have any questions, please call the maintenance office at 910.483.9670.

Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips
- Plan Costumes with Care: Make sure costumes are bright and easy to see in the dark. Avoid costumes that are too long or have loose, flowing fabric that could cause a tripping hazard.
- Reflect On Safety: Add reflective tape to costumes and bags to make them more visible in the dark.
- Light the night: A flashlight can help you see and be seen while trick-or-treating. Glow sticks can also help make trick-or-treaters more visible to drivers and other pedestrians.
- Stay On the Bright Side: Stick to well-lit streets in familiar neighborhoods.
- Walk Responsibly: Stick to sidewalks whenever possible and use crosswalks. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic to be more visible.
- Keep An Eye On The Road: Be aware of cars, and make sure to look both ways before crossing the street. (Likewise, drivers should be extra careful and watch for trick-or-treaters.)
- Ring Where Welcome: For safety and courtesy, only approach homes that have their porch or other exterior lights on to welcome children. Do not ring the doorbell at dark doorways, where residents may not wish to be disturbed.
- Unwrap Wisely: Make sure to inspect all candy before allowing children to eat it. Discard any candy that is not in its original wrapper or looks suspicious.
- Mind Your Masks: Be careful when selecting masks, especially for children, as some may obstruct vision. Consider using makeup instead.
Supervise The Spookiness: Make sure children under 12 have adult supervision at all times while trick-or-treating. Older youths who are venturing out should be aware of these tips, stay in familiar areas, and trick-or-treat in groups. By following these simple safety precautions, you can help ensure that everyone has a happy and safe Halloween!
Thanksgiving
Thankful For Many Things
I am thankful for my family,
My friends I feel the same.
Life is filled with many thanks,
Life is the perfect game.
Life is filled with treasures,
If you're a lucky one.
Be grateful and be humble,
And share them with someone.
But one thing we must remember,
We are not the one to thank.
There is a higher power here,
That we must give first rank.
I am thankful for my life,
And all that it holds.
I'm excited to see what's next for me, Let's see how it unfolds.
